چکیده
Detailed analysis of the satellite derived water vapour for a five years period (1995-1999) prior to and during southwest monsoon is done over Indian subcontinent adjoining seas. Three layer (1000 hPa – 700 hPa, –500 500 -300 hPa) total moisture data available from NOAA/TOVS are used analysis. These study northward propagating intraseasonal oscillations in tropical Ocean summer season. Results indicate presence middle (700 upper level (500 300 vapour. Wavelet applied characteristics time evolution especially East Arabian Sea (EAS). Intraseasonal with periods ranging 8-15 days, 15-30 30-60 days seen EAS. Heavy rainfall events west coast peninsular India studied before after onset terms availability zonal wind speed. The content speed Eastern found influence India.

Hydroclimatic association of the monthly summer monsoon rainfall over India with large-scale atmospheric circulations from tropical Pacific Ocean and the Indian Ocean region
The hydroclimatic association between the monthly Indian summer monsoon rainfall and a proposed monthly composite index (MCI) of large-scale atmospheric circulations from the Pacific Ocean and Indian Ocean regions is established. The spatial variability of this association is also checked. The predictability of the monthly Indian summer monsoon rainfall using the MCI is also investigated and is...
متن کاملStructures and mechanisms of the first-branch northward-propagating intraseasonal oscillation over the tropical Indian Ocean
The first-branch northward-propagating intraseasonal oscillation (FNISO) over the tropical Indian Ocean (IO) often triggers the onset of the Asian summer monsoon. In this study we investigate the structures and mechanisms associated with FNISO through the diagnosis of ERA-Interim reanalysis data for the period of 1990–2009. A composite analysis is conducted to reveal the structure and evolution...
متن کاملIntraseasonal and Interannual Variability of Rainfall over India
A gridded daily rainfall dataset prepared from observations at 3700 stations is used to analyze the intraseasonal and interannual variability of the summer monsoon rainfall over India. It is found that the major drought years are characterized by large-scale negative rainfall anomalies covering nearly all of India and persisting for the entire monsoon season. The intraseasonal variability of ra...
متن کاملIntraseasonal ‘‘monsoon jets’’ in the equatorial Indian Ocean
[1] The zonal wind in the equatorial Indian Ocean (EqIO) is westerly almost throughout the year. It has a strong semiannual cycle and drives the spring and fall Wyrtki jets. In addition, high resolution daily satellite winds show ‘‘westerly wind bursts’’ lasting 10–40 days, associated with atmospheric convection in the eastern EqIO. These bursts have the potential to produce intraseasonal eastw...
متن کاملJuly droughts over Homogeneous Indian Monsoon region and Indian Ocean dipole during El Niño events
The monthly summer monsoon rainfall over the Homogeneous Indian Monsoon region (HI) that represents most of the variance of all-India monsoon rainfall is investigated using observational data from 1880 to 2002. Severe droughts in July occur mostly during El Niño events of the boreal summer monsoon season. They occurred frequently in the late 19th to early 20th century, rarely in the middle of t...
